Are you looking for a new manufacturing partner, comparing processes or exploring how others solve a production challenge? A clear objective makes it easier to choose between exhibitors, seminars and spontaneous conversations. ### Checklist before you travel 1. **Choose no more than three main questions.** For example: ‘Which suppliers can handle our planned production run?’ or ‘What would it take to shorten the lead time?’ 2. **Register in advance.** Follow the organiser’s instructions and save your ticket somewhere you can access it at the entrance. 3. **Make a shortlist of exhibitors to visit.** Group exhibitors into essential visits, worthwhile visits and those to explore if time allows. For example, start with three priority conversations for one day. 4. **Book your most important meetings.** Send the question you want to discuss and ask for the right contact person. Confirm the location, time and how you will contact each other. 5. **Choose programme sessions to suit your questions.** Add a relevant session once the times have been verified. Leave some time before your next meeting. 6. **Plan your travel and breaks.** Allow for getting through the entrance, walking between halls, lunch and the journey home. Leave some gaps in your schedule. Are several people from your company attending? Allocate topics or exhibitors in advance and use the same notes template. This lets purchasing, engineering and production colleagues compare their impressions afterwards. Try planning a six-hour day at the fair. Give each block of visits an objective, such as comparing two manufacturing methods or finding the right technical contact. Allow more time for the activities that help you move forward, while keeping time for breaks and walking between locations. A sketch or image can make the discussion easier; only share material you are authorised to disclose. Save details that need a dedicated technical review for a follow-up meeting. After each visit, record: **what we learnt, what still needs checking, the responsible contact and the next date.** Distinguish the supplier’s statements from information you have verified yourselves. ### How to find packaging companies at Elmia Subcontractor Start with what needs to be packed, protected or handled. Suppliers of transport packaging, protective materials and packing equipment may each address a different part of the same requirement. 1. **Describe your requirements.** Note the dimensions and weight of your goods, how they are handled and what needs to improve.
